Pretty Indie #5

Four incredible artists for you to get your ears around today. Both releases reside in a transcending indie atmosphere that will have you floating in the clouds.

KIPANI DO WE HAVE TO GO

Written and produced by Kipani themselves, “Do We Have To Go” is a stunning indie release that brings comfort to everyone’s lives who hears it. Kipani have new music shaping up this year like there’s no tomorrow, and if this release is anything like what’s to come, the world is in for a real treat. Stating their newest release is a love letter to their introverted selves, the track feels like the best medicine in a suffering world.

Speaking about the new release, Kipani shares: “The words come straight from my diary.” states KIPANI lead singer and songwriter Tiffany Jhingoor. “Being responsible adults, socializing, work, and life obligations all have their place. When it’s too much, all of that [explicit] can be shut out when we are in our comfort zones.”

Musically, the track is a laid-back pop song with indie elements that shine through a turbulent industry. Instrumentally, there are gorgeous swirling synths, captivating vocals, and an ear-worm chorus that will not be leaving your head for days. The indie world is full of artists trying to break through an already hectic world, but I think Kipani could well become the new face of indie music, and I’m totally here for it.

SAM ROBERTS – YOU ARE THE ONE

An artist still at the beginning of his journey, there is so much potential in Sam Roberts’ music. “You Are The One” is a gritting anthem straight from the heart with a whole layer of attitude that cements this artist with charisma and star quality. A debut single that states this musician is here to stay and show the world what rock music can still be like, Sam has a vibrant future ahead of him.

Speaking about the new release, Sam shares: “It is about an ex relationship I was in and it was written at the time for and about one specific person but I think it is obviously applicable to lots of peoples life in many different ways and not just in the romantic sense. It could also be in other types of relationships such as anyone who is special to you and that you have a special connection with. So for me from writing the song to now my view of the song has definitely changed over time.

Musically, the track dives into a seriously strong alternative rock theme fuelled with thrilling guitar chords, ambitious rhythms, captivating harmonies and heartfelt lyrics. “You Are The One” is a fantastic beginning to an adventurous career for this young star.

NEO & NEO – STONE IN MY HEART

Firstly, it’s not every day you hear such a polished production of a live version of a song. “Stone in My Heart” is a track that details being at a very difficult crossroads. The single brings a light to the winter and details Neo & Neo’s discography perfectly. The vocal performance in the track shows a grit yet note-perfect arrangement. The track is about being torn between two people. Torn between a long-term love and a new shade of beauty. It reminds me of that famous quote that if you truly loved the first person, you wouldn’t fall for the second.

Speaking about the release, Dominik from Neo & Neo shares: “I wrote a song that is called “Stone In My Heart”, it is about being torn between two women, one that you really loved and another one that you fell for because of her beauty. Can you build a story out of this?

Musically, the track is based around a simple David Gray sort of structure with layers of gorgeous indie folk sensibilities to pull at your heartstrings. Best described as a ballad with a professional production, “Stone In My Heart” captures the track’s message exquisitely. Written by Dominik Robin, and produced & co-written by Philipp Bäny and Stefan Huber, this partnership could go down in the history books.

FADED ROSE – IN THE FIRST PLACE

Capturing a passionate indie rock arrangement with fragrances of pop thrown in for extra measure, Faded Roses latest release is fuelled by energy and vivid production. The charming guitar line that hammers on throughout the song bursts with momentum, keeping the track flowing in the right direction. A departure from their previous work, “In The First Place” has a lot more angst than their previous work. Their last EP showed a more emotional side to their songwriting, whereas this tune’s arrangement shows that time is a healer and can get you on your feet again.

Speaking about the new release, Faded Rose shares: “In the First Place is about letting love happen organically and not putting too much pressure on yourself or someone else to define what your feelings are. You’ll be okay no matter how it works out.

Armed with an ear-worm chorus that you won’t be getting out of your head anytime soon, “who falls in love in the first place” is such a memorable lyric that it felt automatically like its been written by the greats the first time I heard it. The track proves that sometimes you don’t need the fanciest production or modulation, all you need is a great songwriting team and minimal effects. I liked this song a lot!
