Holly Fitzgerald – Weight of the World (Review)

West Midlands based singer-songwriter Holly Fitzgerald creates a cinematic pop atmosphere in her distinctive songs. Back with “Weight of the World”, the third single from the songwriter battles mental health struggles. Throughout 2019, Holly Fitzgerald has gained support from local radio stations such as BBC West Midlands, WCR, Black Country Radio and Brum Radio, and has even gained international support from stations in America and Australia with Banks Radio highlighting her as a sound of 2019. If you’ve been following MoggBlog for sometime, you’ll remember the feature of T8PES track that starred Holly and know what a great voice she has.

Taking the listener on a journey of introspection and discovery, the theme is secured with an ambitious chorus. Combining Holly’s influences from the pop world, there’s a fragrance of folk and country in the track that symbolises a songwriter simply not holding back. It tackles difficulty and sometimes dark subject material, but the instrumentation that sits behind it comforts the lows to ignite the song as a high. Tied together with Holly’s emotive vocals, the raw sound of her voice is warm and note perfect. A wonderful single from a songwriter truly being herself.
