Dog Drive Mantis – Volta (Review)

Experimental rockers Dog Drive Mantis return with a vibrant new string to their repertoire. Entitled “Volta”, the instrumental number showcases the Toronto based quartet simply in their natural habitat. Flowing freely with great ease, the track was inspired by the imagery of a lighthouse. Wacky and innovative, the tune features elements of jazz fusion mixed with an indie rock vibe.

Delivering a full sound that takes every colour of it’s spectrum, the texture in Volta screams with glitter. Poetic and quite avant-garde, the progressive post-rock track takes us through many genres. With the elevating horn-driven sparkle, the instrumental gives the audience resources to make their own story up. Theatrical and a track you won’t get tired of hearing. If you’re into Snarky Puppy, Vulfpeck and Do Make Say Think, these guys are right up your street.
