Pretty Indie #6

Three incredible acts to share with you all in an ambitious indie soundscape – what more could you want on a Sunday afternoon?

EVELYN KRYGER – TJA

I put Evelyn Kryger in the indie category for this feature simply because of their adventurous sound. The cross-genre sound they create is out of this world. There are elements of progressive rock, jazz, world and indie music all thrown into the mix to create a cocktail suitable for your ears if you’re into experimental music. TJA is a beautifully melodic number with groovy moments that send you into oblivion. The band is a collective built upon talent and experience, and their motto is “that you can bring everything you’ve got into a project and end up with even more than you thought you would.

Similar to the best moments of Return to Forever, the Pat Metheny Group, Nils Petter Molvaer, or ADHD, all these different musical genres and backgrounds flow together into a harmonious whole that no longer needs categorization. The track is fast-paced but has moments to breathe making it a pleasing song to listen to. Taken from their fourth album III, this is a treasured piece of music that showcases that music is the best when it exceeds boundaries and goes into the unknown. The seven-minute wonder takes listeners through realms of progression and dynamically, it’s a captivating listen from the get-go.

STUART LAWRENCE – PARADISE

If you’re a regular reader and listener at MoggBlog, you’ll know all about Stuart Lawrence. Residing in an alternative rock atmosphere with gorgeous moments of indie rock thrown in for extra spice, “Paradise” is the perfect word for this track. Armed with a classic undertone yet still feels present, the melody of the track carries the start from start to finish. Coated with a warm vocal tone from Stuart that we’ve all come to love, the new release is another string to Stuart’s ever-growing bow.

Speaking about the release, Stuart shares: “This song was written during the period that the first album was being recorded. I think the recording process intensifies my creative urge, and as a result I think that Paradise is the best song that I’ve recorded so far. Paradise is due to be released on the next Album called: A collection of short stories volume 2.

Stuart is a 59 year old man that proves to everyone across the globe that you are never too old to do something you truly love. Age is just a number when it comes down to music, and if you’ve got the talent like Stuart does and the passion to do something you’ve always wanted to do – you’ll succeed.

RUSTY REID – AMERICAN VILLAIN

Armed with a soulful vocal that will draw you in, Rusty Reid’s “American Villain” is political and personal. A protest song with social commentary on the politics of the United States, even if you’re not political in the slightest, you can relate to it in some way. Bathed in a country twang vocal coated with a soft rock approach, the elements of indie rock shine through with its polished production.

Rusty warns, “Alas, America’s villain is hardly singular… there are actual villains angling for power in most of the nations of the world. Some of them are already in charge. Others are building momentum. If liberal democracy and hope for having a peaceful, interconnected human family and dealing with such looming problems such as Global Warming are going to be preserved, we must take action now. We cannot allow these selfish, conservative goons to destroy us all and the planet. The first step is identifying those who really, truly are… villains.”

No matter where you come from and what you believe in, you’ll be drawn into Rusty’s music simply because it’s a songwriter standing up for what they believe in… and if that’s not power, god knows what is.
