Stop, Drop & Pop #4

Two incredible pop artists for you to get your ears around today, I can’t wait for you to hear for yourself.

BROMSEN – SOMEONE

What do you combine when you mix indie, electronic, pop and rock together? You get Bromsen’s iconic sound. Back with their latest single “Someone”, this is a captivating release that may be over a month old, but it’s been sat on repeat since it came out. A song that’s intended to do just that (leave on repeat), the song’s message follows a well-trodden path in life, and to listen to your inner voice and to trust your own instincts.

What I love about this song is it’s ability to motivate and keep you on your toes at the sme time. There’s elements of heroicness that makes me feel invincible, yet there’s moments that will keep you grounded and remember what path you are taking. Musically, the track sounds like it would have fit perfectly in the ’80s. However, ’80s inspired music is massive at the moment in the industry, making this song accessible for all ages. The chord progression in this song is adventurous and at times, even experimental.

Richard Bromsen shared: “We hope our song gives people lots of positive energy, similar to
what you would get if you walked somewhere on the outskirts on a cold and sunny day,
be it Berlin or anywhere else in the world.”

SPIRITS OF SATURN – TRANSFIGURED

Synth-pop goodness at its finest, “Transfigured” is a blessing from whatever you make of heaven. Thumping with melodies that weave through complicated soundscapes, Spirits of Saturn’s release is bathed with energy and dark essences. Speaking about the release, the group shared that it’s about “how one gains perspective through the passing of time and constructions of narratives whereby your emotions are transfigured.” Exploring the mental processes following the dissolution of relationships, the track is bathed with a professional chord progression that tells a story just by its melody alone.

Armed with a vocal that could absolutely smash a rock song like “Epic” like Faith No More”, it’s lovely to hear a broody vocal tone alongside an atmospheric pop song. I really could hear this song fit perfectly in today’s charts. Whilst taking slight inspiration from Kraftwerk, Todd Rundgren, The Doors, Daft Punk, Scott Walker, Roxy Music and Suicide, there is a future perfect disco pop feel to their synth led sound which brings a bright ray of hope amidst the current mood of doom, gloom and economic discontent. This band are at the top of my list to see live when they’re in my neck of the woods.
