Easily one of the best renditions of a No Doubt track I’ve ever heard, “Just A Girl” is APHRAH’s latest hypnotic single. Celebrating International Women’s Day with this soulful rendition, the track was released as an anthem for ‘girls around the world’. Produced alongside Jack Gourlay, the track was decided to fit in with the IWD theme of #ChooseToChallenge in mind. Entirely original and making it her own, the melodic number could easily be passed off as APHRAH’s.
Speaking of the track, she said, “I decided to release a cover of ‘Just a Girl’ for International Women’s Day because I was struck by how relevant the lyrics are even today, though the original was released in 1995. Gwen Stefani was writing from her own personal experiences but I think all women can relate to the lyrics. I wanted to release it to coincide with IWD to highlight the inequality women face in the music industry.”
A timeless single that’s best played loud, this version of Just A Girl is soulful and radiates female power – what more could you want?
