Toby Charles – Rather Be (With You) (Review)

Worcester based singer-songwriter Toby Charles returns with latest single ‘Rather Be (With You)“. Self-released October 11th, the track is the first release since his “Spaces in Between” EP, which came out back in February. Drawing influence from artists such as Ben Howard, Jeff Buckley and Arcade Fire, Toby’s overall sound is distinctive and isolates itself within the indie singer-songwriter category.

Toby says of the new single: “I wanted to write an upbeat song, something that felt summer-y that you could have a little dance to. It’s a love song really, about how no matter where you are or what you’re doing it’s never quite as good if the other person isn’t there.” With elements of early noughties pop-rock, the chilled out vibe is ready for a cocktail in it’s hand while sitting on the the beach. Sounding similar to the energy that Jack Johnson delivers throughout his music, the summery hit warms up Autumn.

Score: 3.5/5
