DAAY – Mama (Review)

North London based trio DAY release their debut single ‘Mama’. Released March 30th, the vibrant number is influenced by the likes of Arcade Fire, Fat White Family and MGMT to name a few. Formed in 2019 by Alex Barty-King, the band have since played at over 20 venues across London including O2 Academy Islington. Merging alternative rock with indie psychedelia, their songwriting is intricate and reflects the simple and transformative beauty of the world.

The song is about our relationship with the earth, characterised by an animal searching for meaning from it’s mother. It ultimately determines the answer is love and there’s plenty of it.

As the first song frontman and songwriter Alex wrote for the band, it’s sentimental value will be up there for a while. It’s a statement that this band are ones to keep a close eye on as they head straight for the stars.

Score: 3.5/5
