Pretoria – Gently (Review)

Western Michigan based group Pretoria returned back in November with the humble number “Gently”. Including a slick indie-surf arrangement, the track rocks into a self-assured moment of positivity. Tinged with a 60’s aura, the Latin edge of the single gives it a touch of 2019’s summer hit “Señorita” by Shawn Mendes and Camila Calbello while holding firmly onto it’s alternative path.

Smooth jazz chords underneath a warming melody, the overall soundscape sways with a contemporary face but a nostalgic body. Waltzing into tomorrow, the track is the perfect antidote for the winter blues. Keeping your chin up and acknowledging endings, it’s a firm step in a new direction for the band. Prominently a break up track, the song assures that everything will be ok if you’re in this situation and that sometimes letting go is the right decision. A wonderful single from Pretoria and they’ve gained a new fan in me!
