Kelsy Karter – What U (Review)

Remember when it was all over the internet that a girl got Harry Styles tattooed on her face? Meet Kelsy Karter. After her track “Harry” went viral (fantastic publicity stunt with the fake face tattoo), she’s back with “What U”. Alongside collaborators on the track, Anthony Rossomando (A Star is Born) and Tony Esterly, 2019 is looking to be a great year for the LA artist. Showcasing her ability to situate a pop arrangement with storming rock vocals, “What U” is exactly what you’ve been looking for.

Representing the spirit of Kelsy, “What U” has a careless nature that will leave you speechless. About becoming the best version of yourself, the feel good element of the track stops you in your tracks. Instrumentally, it sounds blues based with the edginess of The Black Keys and Miles Kane. Unique vocals are really the prominent part of the track. Kelsy has her own originality and voice which is so rare. The last original voice that rose to the top had to be Amy Winehouse in my eyes, and there really is something special hidden in Kelsy’s tone. She wants something, she goes and gets it. She’s wanting to reach the top, and she’ll get it. Declaring that she’s not going anywhere anytime soon… Kelsy is here to stay.

Score: 3/5
