Three exceptional artists for you to get your ears around today. All residing in a gorgeous rock soundscape, these tunes will get you headbanging in no time.
SILKTAPE – JADED
Released at the end of June, this is a stunning song that I instantly connected with. Blending stadium rock with a versatile atmosphere of indie elements “Jaded” details the current climate and how people are feeling across the globe. Entering with the juiciest baseline you’ll hear all week there’s no beating around the bush with this song. To me, there are even elements of post-punk in a song that takes listeners back straight to the late ’80s. The production is snappy and able to grip hold of your attention from the get-go. It’s not a slow burner, it’s a song that stole my attention straight away.
Front person George Clark (they/he) says: “I wanted to write a track that spoke to the frustration and disillusionment many people, including myself, are experiencing right now,” says Clark. “Jaded is a call to arms to anyone who feels like they’re not being listened to or understood. It’s about taking a stand and refusing to be silent anymore.” The honesty is compelling and another reason to give this band a good listen. Pushing boundaries with middle fingers up to the haters, I urge you to give this band a chance, they rocked my world the first time I heard them.

AZA BROWN – WASTING AWAY
Armed with a hidden pop element throughout the track, there’s something about this song that keeps drawing me back. Sounding like something you’d hear the Beatles creating in the early 60s, the psychedelic rock offering is a force to be reckoned with. Receiving praise from film star Robert Carlyle and even securing a slot at last weekend’s F1 British Grand Prix, it’s no surprise to me that this artist is getting the recognition that they deserve. Wasting Away is a power pop sensation and is a right earworm that you’ll be singing for the rest of the week. Drawing influence from the likes of The Doors, The Stone Roses, Frank Zappa, and even David Bowie, Aza creates dynamic music that delivers every time you hear it.
Speaking about the release, Aza shares: “It’s a song about certainty, and the only thing in my life I could be certain about at that moment, was my unwavering love for my girlfriend.” I love how glistening the production is and upbeat the performance is executed, there is a really lovely adrenaline throughout the track that can leave anyone with a smile from ear to ear. Quite theatrical in places but still a pleasure to listen to from the start to the end, this song deserves to get Aza’s name in lights.

SAMANTHA LAPORTA – LIES ARE YOUR TRUTH
A powerhouse in the making, Samantha Laporta will have her name written in lights in no time. Channeling influence from the likes of Paramore and Evanescence, Samantha’s performance is ethereal and best described as majestic. The production is a fierce contender in the alternative rock world because it even has elements of dream-pop and shoegaze drawn throughout it. Right from the start the song pulls you in with a driving beta and the most angelic vocals you’ll hear today.
Teaming up with Grammy-nominated sound engineer Mike Piazza for the release, the execution of the track is fuelled with energy. An experimental offering that refuses to be limited to one specific style, “Lies Are Your Truth” has one of the most memorable choruses I’ve heard in a long time. An artist that could resonate with people from all different generations, there’s something for everyone in Samantha’s music. You’ve got the honesty of the lyrics, the rock essence for traditional rock lovers, and a jiving drum beat for people that like a bit of soul and rhythm with their music. “Lies Are Your Truth” is iconic and my favourite Samantha Laporta track to date.
