Interview with Theresa

What three artists have influenced your sound the most?

SUCH a hard question because I am influenced by so many amazing artists at different times for different reasons. But the top 3 that come to mind right now are Madonna, Duran Duran and Queen.

Who in your personal life has influenced your music/career the most?

Another toughie. I don’t think there’s just one person, it’s a collection of people who have made me laugh, inspired me to go further, disappointed me, broke my heart and most importantly, offered me unconditional love when I needed it most.

Are there any moments in your life that have heavily influenced your music?

Every moment inspires me. I am at a place in my artistry where I am really trying to embrace my life as a whole, for better or for worse. I try to find beauty in the moment that ultimately translates into some sort of idea for a lyric or melody.

What influenced you to get into playing your specific instrument/vocals/genre of music?

I was such a young girl when I decided I wanted to be a pop singer and songwriter. There was always music on in my house growing up…whether it was the Radio, MTV or VH-1, I just remember knowing the words to everything that came on and started writing my own songs super early on…and by the time I was 11, I had my first song notebook. Even though they are polar opposites of each other, both Madonna and Debbie Gibson inspired me to take it seriously for different reasons. Madonna – as a strong woman and entertainer who didn’t give a fuck about what anyone thought and Debbie Gibson for writing, producing and performing her own material at 16 years old. WHAT! She was such a trailblazer!

Any films, TV or books that have influenced your music?

Too many to name…but I love being inspired so any content with a message of never giving up and achieving your dreams always wins me over.

Who would you like your music to influence or inspire?

I want to inspire people to follow their dreams – no matter how big or small – at any age. Our dreams do not expire. Yes, it’s hard work, but if we follow our hearts, trust our instincts and believe in ourselves, we will get there. “Trust and Believe” is a mantra I literally write down and say out loud every morning!
