What’s your writing process like? Do you write the music or lyrics first?
For me it’s always lyrics first. I feel like I need to have something to say before I develop any idea musically. Then it’s the vocal melody. If I can sing a song to myself and then remember it the next day then I know I’m on to something. Then I take that idea to my team and we flesh out chords and find sounds that suit the lyrical content and melody. I also take into a session a reference track to help steer and shape the song too.

Yebba Smith’s new album “Dawn” is incredible. I think she is possibly the best female voice I’ve ever heard. And Jungle’s new album “Loving In Stereo” is superb too. They have a sound that is so infectious and uplifting it always makes me smile!
What would be your dream support gig? Bonus points for the place venue!
James Blake is a hero of mine so that would be the absolute dream. And the venue would be Union Chapel. If you haven’t been there it’s THE best place to watch live music. A beautiful setting and the acoustics are wonderful too.
Tell MoggBlog viewers about your latest release! What’s the inspiration behind it?
My new album is called “H E A L E D” It has some of my most positive upbeat songs ever I’ve ever written on it. But it has been just as important for me to talk about some other stuff on this record. Stuff I couldn’t talk about before. Because now there is distance. A different perspective. These songs have helped shape my life in the last 3 years. My experience of being a part-time dad, of lost friends and troubled relationships, stories my friends have told me, and of the positive people still in my life have cleansed my mind and I feel thankful for every one of those experiences, good and bad. They have definitely helped me make the most considered collection of material I have ever written. In writing these songs I now have a better understanding of myself and I feel like I’m on the way to becoming the person I always hoped I could be. And they have helped me finally become truly happy for the first time.
