Interview with LAU

Barcelona based retrowave figure LAU stopped by MoggBlog to chat about musical influences, the best advice they’d give to their younger self and teaming up with Spanish producer Lluva for new release.

To anyone new to your music, name 3 words that best describe your sound.

Synthpop, Retrowave, 80s

Who are your main musical influences and why?

Queen, Tears For Fears, Roxette, Cyndi Lauper and many other 80’s artists have inspired my music in different ways. I think that was the golden era of Pop music and I love that timeless 80’s Synthpop sound, which is very characteristic. I usually try to honour a little bit of that in my music.

What’s the best advice you’d give to your younger self?

Believe in your own voice and your own image, the more unique you are, the better.

What’s in store for you for the rest of the year?

I’m currently in the studio finishing up my second album, which is due in February 2022, and rehearsing for my live shows. I hope to play some shows by the end of the year if everything goes according to plan.

Tell MoggBlog viewers about your latest release “The Waves”! What’s the inspiration behind that?

I wrote this song with Spanish producer Lluva, and it talks about not being afraid to fall in love, jumping deep into it and seizing the moment, without being afraid of the consequences.
