Interview with Domo Wilson

Social media icon and household name Domo Wilson returns with the empowering new single ‘Sweet Girl’. You may recognise the songwriter from her viral songs, or her former vlogging channel. There’s no denying that this powerful woman has the world in the palm of her hand. Released August 20th, the track is the perfect addition to Domo’s ever-growing discography. With over 368,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and over 8 million followers across her social media accounts, Domo is certainly the role model you’d want your kids to look up to. Having went viral on TikTok with bisexual anthem ‘Becoming Myself’, the LGBTQ+ artist has been going from strength to strength with each musical release.

To anyone new to your music, name 3 words that best describe your sound.

Smooth. Soothing. Rugged.

Introduce yourself (yourselves) and your hidden talent!

Hello im Domo Wilson and what people dont know is i engineer all of my own music.

What made you decide that music is the right path for you?

Knowing that when im in a dark place, music (besides my son) is the only thing that can get me out of it.

What’s your writing process like? Do you write the music or lyrics first?

When I go through life, i sit down and write about it. 99% of my songs i write are all life experiences.

Do you prefer performing live or recording, and why?

Recording, my nerves are bad lol. But im sure with a glass of wine before a show ill be fine.

Who are your main musical influences and why?

Willow and Jaden Smith. To see the representation and people who look like me is everything. Singing the genre i love as well. I love them!

If you could change about the music industry, what would it be?

Dont bench people. Ive seen great artist be benched just because someone “greater” has come along. Let people create art.

What would be your dream support gig? Bonus points for place/venue.

The Troubadour in West Hollywood. Some of the greats have performed there. Id lose my entire mind!

If you could collaborate with anyone dead or alive, who would it be?

Besides the artist ive named above, id say Drake, Yung Blud, MGK or Lil Nas X.

What’s the best advice you’d give to your younger self?

TAKE YOUR TIME. HAVE PATIENCE. STOP COMPARING YOURSELF. Comparison is the thief of joy!

Give our listeners some music recommendations that we should check out!

Well i grew up in Valparaiso IN so very much Taylor Swifty (lol i love her though, yes i put the y on her name on purpose)

Tell MoggBlog viewers about your latest release! What’s the inspiration behind that?

I wrote “On the Spectrum” for my son who has autism. It’s one of my favorite songs ive released so far. Close to my heart.

How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?

The internet was one of the best things created for the music business. Promotion is easier, getting your name out there is faster. 10/10 recommend.
