I chatted with LGBTQ+ icon Callum Crighton who’s about to drop his exceptional debut EP, ‘Lazer Police: The Musical“. We chatted about how music has always been his main love, musical influences, dream collaborations and the forthcoming release.

Introduce yourself (yourselves) and your hidden talent!

I am Callum Crighton, the lovechild of Madonna and The Goblin King, and my hidden talent is that I’m able to give a scarily accurate palm reading!

What made you decide that music is the right path for you?

It’s been in my blood since I was born! My mum found out she was pregnant with me on the night of Eurovision song contest which I find HILARIOUS! Since I was a little kid I’ve only ever wanted to be a famous performer, nothing else will do!

Who are your main musical influences and why?

I’m really inspired by artists of the 80’s, I love how they were so wild and rooted in escapism. I’m a huge Madonna fan, I love Bowie, The Human League, Duran Duran and Gary Numan, but also love modern artists such as Grimes and MARINA, as they take the music into their own hands and have a very DIY approach to it all.

If you could change about the music industry, what would it be?

I’d change the lack of queer representation and the amount of straight white men running the show. The industry can often feel like ‘the boys club’, even when the artist is a female. This is why I only work with women or queer people (except on one occasion) – always be the change you want to see in the world.

Tell MoggBlog viewers about your latest release! What’s the inspiration behind that?

Lazer Police: The Musical is a concept EP that I’ve packaged together with a short film
showcasing all four of the songs. I wanted to do something a little outside the norm, and wanted to incorporate visuals and create a world for the listeners to indulge themselves in!
