Soup Review – Beneath the Big White Moon

South Yorkshire meets South Coast outfit Soup Review create innovative music somewhere between folk tradition and anti-folk downbeat. “Beneath the Big White Moon” was released back in 2020, and this Sheffield based outfit have been turning heads ever since they formed, back in 2018.

Album opener ‘Hello World’ is a friendly, gentle track and the perfect number to introduce yourself to Soup Review’s music. No matter what track you listen to on this release, there’s something for everyone. Something to make you feel happy, sad, and even be belted out awfully in the shower, “Beneath the Big White Moon” is as real as it gets. Showcasing that imperfections can make your perfections, the release isn’t perfect, and that’s what makes it even more unique.

Balancing silliness with sincerity in places, there’s humour but there’s also seriousness in the right places. Having been out for a lengthy amount of time, ‘Beneath the Big White Moon’ is still impactful after many listens. Stick it on repeat and be absorbed by Soup Review’s talent, they deserve to be the next folk icons.
