Alternative rock-grunge outfit Kath & the Kicks returned with their new single “Walls Between Us” on December 20th. Comprising of Kath Edmonds (vocals/guitar), Shaneen Mooney (bass/backing vocals) and Matt Larkin (drums), the trio smash between filthy garage rock and alternative heavy rock blues. Vigorous and smashing through powerful anthems, their grit filled tracks are secured within the latest offering.
As a strong power-house anthem, the arrangement feels natural and progresses clearly. Creating an opposite affect to the meaning of the track, the song’s subject is a lot more deeper than you’d expect. Here’s what the band said on the track: “Ever felt like you’re screaming and no one can hear you? Ever been so lost in your own head that it’s impossible to explain what you mean and how you’re feeling? ‘Walls Between Us’ is about a complete miscommunication, being lost in how to relate to those around you and feeling that the chance to do so is slipping away. The song disconnects you from the real world where things make sense, and the ‘other’ world where nothing is real.
A passionate track uplifted in a big sound for a three piece. Just goes to show, it doesn’t matter what size of a band you are, if you feel the music in the right way, your sound will come across true and energetic.
