Bringing colourful melodies and a wide range of influences to the spectrum, I caught up with San Pedro based alt-pop duo The Habits to talk all things future and what’s coming up next.
Hey guys! How are things? You’re gearing up for the new EP I’d imagine. Tell us a bit about the upcoming single “Love You”. What was the process like recording/writing it?
“love you” was actually the last song we recorded for the EP. We were listening through demos of older songs and once the chorus played, the room lit up. The chorus had been written a year or two ago and was almost forgotten. Our producer, Courtney Ballard, heard the potential of where the song could go instantly. We rewrote the verses and switched up the vibe a little, but the foundation of the song is definitely the hook.
If you could sum up your music in one sentence , what would it be?
Our music is nothing, but heartfelt. Whether we’re happy or sad, it’s all from the heart.
Who are your main musical influences and why?
We grew up in the era of Blink and Green Day and Good Charlotte. So, we hold on to the fun of the music and the emotion of the lyrics. We’re always listening to bands like The 1975 and Cage the Elephant and artists like Shawn Mendes, Post Malone, Kendrick, Kanye, and 5 Seconds of Summer. We love anything and everything. We think that genre isn’t important or relevant anymore. What is important is making music that we love and pulling influence from any artists that we relate with. The music we listen to is honest and real and that’s what we strive for in our own.
If there was anything advice you’d give to your past selves, what would it be?
Take action and be persistent. What happens will happen and as long as you’re working hard and fighting for what you want, you’ll succeed in the end.
Lastly, any upcoming releases you want to pump? Any tours we can be excited about?
Our debut EP comes out June 14. It’s a huge deal to us and we’re so proud. Our EP release show is June 29 at Chain Reaction. It’s all ages. That will be a night you can’t miss. As for tours, we really hope to be touring before the end of the year.
