Stop, Drop & Pop #2

Three incredible artists for you to get your ears around today. All residing in a gorgeous pop soundscape, these tunes will get you dancing around your room in no time.

HOLLY JADE – NOVEMBER

Armed with a polished vocal that could easily find its way gliding to the top slot in any pop charts, ‘November‘ gripped me from the first time I heard it. Situated in a bedroom pop limelight yet still commercially ready, the production of this single is intimate and something that pop stars of today would only dream of having. Speaking about the new release, Holly shares: “November is a bittersweet, lo-fi indie-pop track about friends gone too soon.” The track details loss and having a hard time coming to terms with making sense of the feelings that you feel.

Adding to the track, Holly states: “When I went to this recording session I knew I wanted to write about it, but in a way that felt nostalgic and bittersweet. My friends Jamesfromtheinternet and Stephen Ordoñez helped me craft the song in a really authentic way and I think it captures all those feelings of loss, heartbreak and confusion but also some joy and sweetness as well.”

The chord progression in this song doesn’t follow the usual pop rulebook and features some really intricate inversions. The only thing I want more of is more Holly Jade songs! Encore Holly, encore!

ANNA ELYSE – SLOT MACHINES

A gorgeous listen, Anna Elyse’s vocals on ‘Slot Machines’ are remarkable. Fuelled with a warm tone and a stunning texture throughout that could reassure anyone, the new release is coated with a gentle production. The instrumentation may feel simple, but its Anna’s vocals that carry the performance throughout.

To me, the track has a subtle country-pop feel to it and if it had a few complex structures, it could even towards Americana. Anna’s vocals would definitely suit that type of genre, too. You can totally hear her inspiration from prolific songwriters such as Neil Young, yet she has a modern take on the world of pop.

On the song, Anna shares: “Slot Machines is about realizing you’ve outgrown a situation. You try to make it work, like sitting at a slot machine and continuing to pull the lever in hopes that you’ll hit the jackpot the next time around. Even if you wanted things to go back to how they were, it wouldn’t be possible. You don’t belong there anymore. You’ve completely changed

This is an artist that deserves her name in lights simply because of her vocals and songwriting. Four words… out of this world.

VESSNA SCHEFF – BUTTER

Silky and smooth, “Butter” is fuelled by mesmerizing vocal harmonies that will leave you wanting more. There’s something about VESSNA that comes across as exciting it feels like we’re in the presence of someone who could really make it big. There is an electrifying current in her songwriting that comes across as vivid and one of the most colourful releases you’ll hear in a long time. “Butter” is irresistible it will leave you not walking but running towards the dancefloor that has a glistening disco ball above your head.

This song is inspired by a desire to feel playful, fun, sexy, and confident while navigating being a caregiver during the pandemic. I wrote ‘BUTTER’ inspired by Adult Skate Night (unofficially known as Black skate night at rinks throughout the U.S.) as a dreamscape of the freedom found on the rink” Vessna says.

Diving through disco elements the synthesisers and this piece are breathtaking. It’s for the RNB lovers it’s for the pop lovers and people who want to dance. The perfect song for your Friday night playlist. Just like the title this song is as smooth as butter and a playful look at being confident in your own skin and loving who you truly are.
