Rock Goodness #3

Another week of exceptional releases, and today, I’ve got 4 artists to champion, right here on MoggBlog. All residing in a gorgeous rock soundscape, these tunes will get you headbanging in no time.

THE TRUSTED – MARROW

A rising band that resides mainly in an indie rock soundscape, The Trusted’s new single called “Marrow” absolutely rocked my world. Sharing a story about unrequited love, the new release offers a fresh take on their already iconic signature sound. Straight off the mark with a stunning piano line that cements the band with icon status, you could easily hear this song being screamed for by fans in a jam-packed arena one day.

“Marrow is a song about obsession. We don’t usually dive into the realm of love songs, but we decided to give it a shot,” says Tom with a hint of intrigue. “It’s probably our most direct tune to date. Marrow delves into the concept of wanting to get under someone’s skin, to become inseparable from their very being. The song embodies the essence of exaggerated affection, restlessness, and unyielding devotion,” lead vocalist Tom shares.

Lead vocalist Tom’s vocals soar freely with a warm tone yet still capture raw emotions through. It’s the production that brings me back each time. Every time you listen, you’ll find something else to worship. As for the concept, it’s entirely familiar and speaks about that desperate feeling of feeling content with not just someone, but also yourself. A fantastic release with layers of personality.

THE CRYSTAL TEARDROP – BY THE RIVER

As soon as I heard ‘By The River‘ for the first time, I knew I was in for an incredible rollercoaster ride. This song refuses to be limited to one sound. It rips through all the barriers and creates the most gorgeous cocktail of genres you’ll hear all week. The Crystal Teardrop‘s second single dives through garage rock elements and a shimmering light of psychedelia. Speaking about their sound, the group shares: “Many bands mention the words ‘psych’ or ‘psychedelic’ but we believe we’re one of the few that actually deliver that sound.

For someone who’s already a huge fan of that retro, raga rock vibe that Kula Shaker cemented in the ’90s, it’s so refreshing to hear a young band carry on that sound in the present, and I must add… they smash it. This is a group that knows exactly what their vision is… to create music without boundaries. The track encourages listeners to reflect on what is truly signature to them. In other words, this song is yours. Do what you will with it. It’s created for the fans to take the leap and interpret it how they wish.

Musically, it’s ambitious and captivated me from the get-go. This sounds like a group that you need to experience live… The Crystal Teardrop… where can I get my tour ticket from?!

CHASING SHADOWS – EMILY

Well… one word to sum up this release = Energetic.

Emily” is fuelled by a strong melody and a memorable chorus that hasn’t left my head since its release back in August. Chasing Shadows are known for their signature sound of euphoric riffs and a sound that could fill a stadium with just the first note. “From the second we first played this in practice, we loved Emily,” says Sam Roberts of Chasing Shadows. “It was one of those tracks that we just couldn’t stop playing, and it all came about so quickly. We’re really excited to finally have it out in the world for everyone to finally hear!”

Musically, the track is filtered around an indie-rock persona with a pop-punk arrangement. If you don’t fall in love with this song from the start, you need to get out more. It’s upbeat, jam-packed with a singalong melody, and, to me, a good old-fashioned classic sound. This is the type of music that could only be described as anthemic. You could picture a whole crowd with their arms around each other as their favourite song starts playing… and you bet that favourite song is this.

It proves to me that sometimes you don’t need a complicated structure to get your point across. The track is simple. It grits you from the initial drum beat and carries you through with its incredible dynamic structure. Love this release, it has set me up for a fun weekend ahead!

SANDRA BOUZA – SIT BY THE FIRE

If you’re going to pick a powerhouse vocal to listen to today, make sure it’s Sandra Bouza. Sit By The Fire’ is the fourth single from her new album, which was released last week, and comes across as a soulful song about living life fast… and sometimes how that can be a bit overwhelming. Speaking about the release, Sandra states: “I think it’s really a song about burnout, in any industry or lifestyle, just trying to fit everything in all at once, and you always have this voice in the back of your head, or maybe a friend or influence telling you to slow down.”

Relatable. Familiar. Burnout is the root of all evil but being a working musician or working toward a goal just in general in life, we all end up getting burnt out at some stage. This release details that feeling perfectly. “Sit By The Fire” is a shapeshifting offering that weaves through elements of R&B, soul, and rock and comes across as professional and innovative in a world that’s already filled with captivation. I’d love to hear this songstress covering a track off the Daisy Jones & The Six album or take on a Beth Hart classic. Sandra’s got personality in her voice that is best described as warm and a guiding hand through the darkness of a busy world.

Looking at her new album ‘A Sound In The Dark’, this compelling release is everything you’d imagine from a powerful vocalist. It mirrors life experiences and a true adventure of hope.
