Interview with Siimon

One of the most successful UK bands ever, Coldplay have achieved the unachievable. Over 100 major awards including nine BritAwards and seven Grammys, over 100 million copies sold across their seven number one albums and countless hit singles, the 4 piece have now reached the 20th anniversary of their second album ‘A Rush Of Blood To The Head’.

Introduce yourself (yourselves) and your hidden talent!

I’m SIIMON singer.songwriter from Meopham in Kent and my hidden talent is I’m a part- time Chris Martin in the UKs top Coldplay tribute band COOLPLAY. I’ve been performing as Chris since 2003 across the UK and Europe to audiences of up to 40,000 and have appeared on TV and national Radio.

What would be your dream support gig? Bonus points for place/venue.

Well Coldplay would be the obvious choice, but I’d probably need to do my own material rather than their covers ! Dream venue would be Brighton Centre as thats where I saw
Coldplay on the Rush of Blood To The Head tour that inspired me to embark on a 20 year musical journey as a tribute.

If you could collaborate with anyone dead or alive, who would it be?

I would actually love to write with Ella Henderson, I absolutely love her writing, great lyrics and would be awesome to write with her.

What’s the best advice you’d give to your younger self?

Follow your dreams – music was always a ‘hobby’ for me and something that took 2nd place to a ‘proper job’. When I look back at my life the highlights have all been music based and my first original album got to no.2 in iTunes Singer Songwriter chart but it took me to 49 to release original music !

Tell MoggBlog viewers about your latest release! What’s the inspiration behind that?

My latest release is ‘A Rush of Strings To The Head’ which is complete remake of the classic Coldplay album A Rush of Blood To The Head from 2002, rearranged for string quartet. After releasing Clocks and The Scientist in 2021 as YouTube videos with string quartet and getting half a million views, I decided to tackle the entire album with the same string based approach for 2022, the 20th anniversary of the albums release.
