What made you decide that music is the right path for you?
I’ve always been obsessed with music, even when I was a kid. I loved messing around on the drums, guitar, piano, and even guitar hero haha. I studied different things in school like computer science, engineering and business but I couldn’t see myself being happy in those professions. I spent years getting good at producing and songwriting, and finally got the confidence in myself to pursue it with everything I have. I know that wherever I end up, I’ll be involved in the music industry because it’s the only thing that brings me genuine happiness.
What’s your writing process like? Do you write the music or lyrics first?
Every song is different. I’d say most of my songs I start with guitar and a chord progression/riff and hum melodies over it. Once I have that, it’s pretty easy for me to determine the vibe of the song and the rhythm to give it the energy it needs. Once I have an instrumental with some melody ideas, I step into the vocal booth and riff as many melodies as I can. Then I can pick and choose what fits best and write lyrics to it. Whenever I get stuck on a part, I just skip it and come back to it another day. I’m also constantly listening to my music in the car because it gives me a lot of time to figure out exactly what to do when I get back to the studio.
Who are your main musical influences and why?
I take a lot of inspiration from a lot of different artists for different things. I listen to Jon Bellion for vibe/emotion, Lauv for lyrical cohesiveness, Aries for replay value, Post Malone for vocal performance, Jeremy Zucker for creativity. I try to take my favorite aspects of each artist and blend them into a unique sound.
What’s in store for you for the rest of the year?
I have a lot happening this year. Over the past 7 months I’ve released a few singles and I’ll be releasing more very soon. Once they’re all out, I’m releasing them all as an album with 4 bonus songs. I have a LOT of new material that I’m in the process of finishing up, but they’ll all be released in 2022. I’m also selling merch and performing some local shows. The dates for the shows are TBA.
Tell MoggBlog viewers about your latest release! What’s the inspiration behind that?
I just released a new song titled ‘Wish You Away’. I love every song that I release, but this one has a special place in my heart. I poured my emotions into every aspect of the song, and the production and lyrics both tell the same story. Creating this song was extremely natural and I didn’t second guess any of my decisions. I knew it was special right away because everyone I showed it to couldn’t get the chorus out of their heads. I’m in the process now of finishing up the music video for it, so be on the lookout for that!
