Composed of brothers Emmanuele and Tommaso, the siblings write and produce their own music. The type of track that would sit perfectly on your playlist if you love Steven Wilson, Porcupine Tree, Mogwai, or Depeche Mode, the transcending sound of Medivh will leave you weak at the knees.
To anyone new to your music, name 3 words that best describe your sound.
Dark, powerful, melancholic.
Do you prefer performing live or recording, and why?
We love the writing process, playing and singing new songs. We love creating sound texture and original melodies. But “live” is what we love more and do best. Getting close to people, turn up the volume, the beauty of guitars and drum sound, the power of live music is unique.
Who are your main musical influences and why?
We almost listen to every kind of music, this is all about inspiration and creativity. Main influences? Trent Reznor, Steven Wilson. But we have to say, grunge has played an important role in Medivh’s consciousness: Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley, Chris Cornell… Their suffering really changed our perception of music.
If you could change about the music industry, what would it be?
We know communication is the key. But the illusion that communication is everything may lead us to a society devoid of meaning, in which all that matters is the existence of the message and nothing is invested in its content. The troubling indication of this are the inner emptiness that grips many people and the loss of meaning. So, we must recover the deep sense of the sacredness of life. It’s not easy but it’s definitely the only thing to do.
What’s the best advice you’d give to your younger self?
Be yourself. Can’t let other people’s judgements hold you back. Make your trip in the darkness of the unconscious. Listen to your heart and your soul, follow your dreams and do your best to make them real. Work hard, stay true and surround yourself with people you love and respect and there’s nothing you cannot achieve.
