Sometimes you encounter an artist that just oozes personality and drive, Flowervillain feels like that artist. Returning with hip-hop infused EP ‘FRANK’, the Canadian based artist cites Tyler the Creator, MF Doom, Madlib and Frank Ocean as major influences. Hearing his inspirations samples perfectly throughout the new release, the electrifying new release nudges other artists yet comes across as refreshingly original. Combining sounds both sampled and original from different genres, eras and sub-cultures, ‘FRANK’ is a memorable experience through re-contextualisation.
Speaking about leading single ‘thinking bout forever’, which samples iconic Frank Ocean tracks, Flowervillain shares, “It marks an evolution in my production style and level of execution. I’ve been working on the ideas for my project FRANK for a while and to me this track is the culmination of the best parts of Flowervillain so far, as well as a taste of what’s possible in the future. It’s also a tribute to one of my favourite Frank Ocean live performances – FYF Fest ’17”
Hoping people can find something they’ve never heard before in his music, Flowervillain adds, “The samples in FRANK come from all over the world, from times present and past. I hope people look deeper into the sounds they like in my music and discover something they never knew about before.”
