Interview with tara-bridget

An artist that instantly stole my attention from the very first note of her new single ‘She’s so cool’, tara-bridget stopped by to speak about Brooklyn’s music scene, main musical influences and why music is the right path for her.

Do you prefer performing live or recording. Why?

I’ve always liked who I am as a performer. I Just feel more myself singing on stage and being ully IN it. I have an appreciation for both. I like the tediousness of recording. The taking a long while, the fucking it up, the scrapping it and then suddenly striking gold. But there isn’t a feeling that comes close to performing and moving people.

What’s the music scene like where you are from?

In Brooklyn, it’s always shows, it’s loud, it’s in everyone and everything. I grew up around people just wanting to go out and dance whether that was highschool indie band shows or secret raves or the shows at the hundreds of venues in the borough alone. There’s a competitiveness for music and artistry here, which comes with the territory. It’s more about how you approach that as an artist, what’s important to you as creator and as a person. The music scene in New York has brought me so many friends and experiences.

Who are your main musical influences and why?

Only speaking about vocals, Dionne Warwick and Enya are my top two I think. Enya’s intricate layering in the mixes paired with power in Warwick’s voice. She has a voice that was, to me, born to be a singer. Just so naturally gorgeous – I aspire to have or feel the kind of power she has and the inspiration of bravery to just sing the saddest love song in your life.

Name three words that describe your sound?

Hmmm. Primrose, honest… maturing!

What made you decide that music is the right path for you?

It seemed that for a long time everyone knew it but me. I was in denial about the unrealism of what being a solo artist is. Truthfully, there was no decision – it just was. It’s the only thing that makes sense to me in my life. As a person who struggles with decisiveness, that’s a big deal.
