Little Fuss is a new indie-pop band consisting of vocalist Olivia Martinez and multi-instrumentalist Cody Von Lehmden. The duo dropped by to speak about changes they’d make in the industry, why Gorillaz would be their dream support gig and what’s planned for the rest of 2021.
Introduce yourself (yourselves) and your hidden talent!
Little Fuss consists of vocalist Olivia Martinez and multi-instrumentalist Cody Von Lehmden. We met while studying abroad in Spain in 2019 and have spent the past two years writing and slowly honing our craft as songwriters and performers. I suppose our hidden talent would be our affinity for Just Dance… we also have a passion for brainstorming then quickly scrapping strange screenplay ideas (Steven Spielberg, if you want to hear our pitch for “Friends – the Horror Movie” you know where to find us 😉
Do you prefer performing live or recording, and why?
Because we formed during COVID, we were forced to embrace recorded music as a means to stay creative in the absence of live music. As a duo, this also helped us to carry out our song ideas before we were able to perform with other musicians. However, now that music venues are opening back up, we’re becoming increasingly enthusiastic about playing live.
If you could change about the music industry, what would it be?
We definitely would make it easier for DIY and self-funded musicians to gain traction in the industry. This is especially relevant to us, as we’ve seemingly had to work twice as hard to get our foot in the door. Overall though, it’s been a rewarding process doing things ourselves and finding platforms that genuinely want to promote DIY artists!
What would be your dream support gig? Bonus points for place/venue.
An extremely unattainable yet dream support gig would be opening for Gorillaz. As a band, we’re both very into visual art, and the way they integrate that with their live performances is hugely inspiring for us. Red Rocks Amphitheater would be cool!
What’s in store for you for the rest of the year?
As we’ve been rolling out the EP, we’ve also been hard at work recording and writing new material. We’re looking forward to releasing our next batch of songs in the near future, while also continuing to play live shows!
