Interview with Jasimi

I caught up with inspiring songwriter Jasimi to chat about the best advice she’d give to her younger self, latest EP ‘Bought Myself Daisies’ and preference on performing live or recording.

To anyone new to your music, name three words that best describe your sound.

I’d say Funky folky hop-hop

What made you decide that music is the right path for you?

Music is a thing that has always captivated me, but once I started writing songs the passion for it just sort of gripped me and hasn’t let me go since

What’s your writing process like? Do you write the music or lyrics first?

I start with an instrument and a melody first most of the time. That’s where I find the heart beat of the song. That spark that feels like a secret in learning. I follow that feeling though all the production and stuff trying to remain true to the initial inception.

Do you prefer performing live or recording, and why?

That’s a hard question. I love the energy of a room. The vibrancy, getting to see some one in the audience being effected by what you’re doing. But I also love the intimacy of being in the studio. That anything is possible feeling when a song is still just mine.

I’m also a new music artist, so I don’t actually have a lot of live experience just yet. I’m excited and nervous. I feel like I really come alive on stage and I’m so eager to get to know that feeling well.

What’s in store for you for the rest of the year?

Not sure yet! Definitely some adventures! Definitely some park days with my doggo and then next year I get to go off and play a super hero, so I’m a happy lady

Tell MoggBlog viewers about your latest release! What’s the inspiration behind that?

My ep “Bought Myself Daisies” was kind of a journey of heartbreak, healing, wildness and acceptance and I feel the tracks each offer different shades of that journey
