Interview with Madison Margot

Easily one of the strongest pop artists around, Madison Margot stopped by MoggBlog HQ to introduce herself to new fans, discussing why music is the right path for her, dream support shows and lots more!

Introduce yourself (yourselves) and your hidden talent!

Hello! My name is Madison! Now, I wouldn’t say I’m good, but I love to play golf and tennis in my free time! I am also obsessed with cooking!

What made you decide that music is the right path for you?

I knew music was the right path for me when I was 11. That’s when songs started to come to me clearly. It became a necessity. I had so much to say growing up, but not enough courage to say it. So music became an escape for me to really voice how I felt. Whether it was about crush or a bad day at school, I got to vent! It remains a necessity today. There is no greater feeling than writing a song.

If you could change about the music industry, what would it be?

I have noticed that I’m not as optimistic as I once was when it comes to the music industry, and that is because of the people in it. The amount of industry people who say they can help, but end up ignoring your emails. The men who say you need to do cute dances on TikTok in order to make it. To these people, you’re never thin enough, you’re never pretty enough, you’re never good enough. Their standards are so impossible. I would get rid of all of them if I could. I wish artists could just create and be discovered. I wish it was easier for people to shine. There are only about five pop stars that exist at a time because of these standards. But there are millions of incredible artists to discover!

What would be your dream support gig? Bonus points for place/venue.

Can Taylor Swift please do an intimate show at The Fonda Theater in Los Angeles? She can play “folklore” and “evermore” and I will open for her.

How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?

I believe the Internet has been so incredible for independent artists. It has allowed us to share our creations with our online community. It has allowed us to make connections we would’ve never been able to make. It truly has made collaboration and communication so much easier. But of course it doesn’t just have a pretty side! It’s now a bit of a hustle in itself. All these algorithms make it harder to be seen if you’re not posting a certain amount of pictures. Then you have to also be active on the other platforms to reach a different audience. It’s become a job haha! So not only are we trying to have our music heard, we are trying to be seen!
