YVA – I Won’t Wait

London based artist YVA returns with her second single of the year. ‘I Won’t Wait‘ blends a soft-rock with alternative to create an ethereal arrangement. Spending a decade in the industry, writing and touring (Nitin Sayhney, James Bay, George Ezra, Paolo Nutini), YVA has also gigged with the likes of Lianne La Havas (who’s new album is absolutely stunning) and Sam Fender (before he was a star).

“I Won’t Wait was written out of frustration that this guy kept leading me on and then binning me off, and I kept giving him chances because something about him had me forgiving him. I think I knew he was special, even if he was acting like a total dickhole at the time. I was obviously right, because we ended up coming back into eachothers lives six years ago, and haven’t looked back since. It was seven years before I had the courage to play with I Won’t Wait again, though. Re-arranging it and turning it into something far beastlier than its acoustic predecessor was a total joy because it came at a time when I had jacked in writing to other peoples’ expectations of me. It was very much something I put on myself, I think and the idea of not waiting around for fear of someone defining you wrong, or dictate your life’s work, just felt momentous.”

‘I Won’t Wait’ is passionate and one of best track’s I’ve heard this month. Nudging influences such as Radiohead, Anna Calvi and Massive Attack, YVA’s distinctive sound is unforgettable.
