Three exceptional artists for you to get your ears around today. All residing in a gorgeous indie soundscape, these tunes will leave you feeling euphoric for your Bank Holiday weekend!
The best thing about the indie genre is that there are so many sub-genres. Katherine Nora is an artist who weaves through different elements of indie with so much ease that you can’t even determine what parts are what sound. There’s indie folk, pop, rock, and even soul thrown in the mix with her songwriting, creating a truly enchanting arrangement. “Church Lane ” is her latest offering with a stunning soundscape from the get-go. There are moments where the song really opens up to the public to interpret it however they wish, but there are also moments where we can identify that this is Katherine’s calling.
It seamlessly blends the high-energy folk-pop sensibilities of Maggie Rogers with the atmosphere and introspective lyricism of Lizzy McAlpine. Immersive songwriting at its best, the storytelling in Katherine’s vocals and melodies is utterly breathtaking. Able to pull on your heartstrings yet reassure you that everything will be okay, “Church Lane” grabs hold of you, and hugs you into remembering that in this moment, you can be whatever you want to be.
Someone get this songwriter on a big stage somewhere, the world is her oyster.

PLANTOID – DOG’S LIFE
I battled with what avenue I should put this in, and that’s what made me love it even more. Plantoid’s new offering is eccentric, to say the least. Artistic from the very first second, the indie essence in this song is diverse and creates a rainbow of colors. I could only imagine this is the essential Synesthesia song. If you had a bingo card with ’60s psychedelia, ’70s prog, ’80s post-rock, space rock, indie rock, and jazz on, you’d win the whole game with this track. Having recently supported Squid and Water From Your Eyes, it’ll come as no surprise that these guys are getting the praise they rightly deserve.
Speaking about their new record deal, Plantoid shared: “We just signed with Bella Union (Beach House, Flaming Lips, Father John Misty, Pom Poko, Spiritualized, Explosions In The Sky, Ezra Furman, John Grant etc) and we feel right at home!
Released only last week, “Dog’s Life” has been stuck in my head ever since I first heard it. There are driving guitar lines that find themselves burying into your brain, elastic bass melodies that glide freely like a bird, and the most commanding vocal you’ll hear all week. The vocals are somewhere between an angel sent from heaven and an alien… they’re quirky yet able to steal your full attention.

SAER – NYC
I’ve been a huge fan of SAER’s work from what feels like the very beginning. Released at the end of July and still enchanting listeners across the world a month later, “NYC” immerses listeners into a world of avenues and you guessed it… subways! Another track on this feature that doesn’t like being limited to one musical category, this song will be loved by people who like rock, indie, pop, and even more classical arrangements from ’80s ballads. Mirroring the city’s capacity to make people feel welcome yet slightly agitated by its fame, the song describes the city as having an almost human-like presence, a protective entity as such.
Speaking about the release, Saer shares: “The track is an exploration of duality, mirroring the city’s capacity to cradle and challenge, to cage and liberate.” I haven’t personally been a fan of AI-generated content recently, but this song completely stole the show for me. Utilizing Stable Diffusion and learning the craft in prompting, Griffin was able to visually echo the song’s lyrical metaphors through AI-generated imagery. This is an artist who knows his craft better than anyone else, and I can hand on heart say that each release of his just gets better and better.
