I sat down with Canadian artist Polar Mind to chat about what’s in store for the rest of the year, what their latest release is about, and the main musical influences that have inspired them on the way.
Introduce yourself (yourselves) and your hidden talent!
I Am Polar Mind. As a member of a research team, I spent a long time in Antarctica, observing and examining the sounds of the sea and the ice, among other things. This time was very lonely on the one hand, but also healing in a certain way. The loneliness, the limited radius of movement you have there does something to someone. It changes your mind, your feelings… but it can also be very inspiring, almost spiritual. As a hidden talent I would say… I don’t have any.. but I have the urge to turn into music what I see, experience, feel as a kind of diary.
Who are your main musical influences and why?
When I couldn’t sleep properly on lonely nights… I only had my diary, playing cards (with which I played against myself) and a radio, a so-called world receiver on the station… I messed around with it often and usually had no signal getting in… sometimes when the weather was very good i could make out some music in the rushing… and there was a faint glimpse of the song “Hunting Hi And Low” by A-HA. That was a kind of constant companion… if you can call that an influence… otherwise I just enjoyed it… back in Switzerland… just trying out things, sounds, devices… and read me something wonderful that surprised me it becomes.
If you could collaborate with anyone dead or alive, who would it be?
If I could wish who I could work with one day… and EVERYTHING would be possible… probably FALCO… I imagine it to be very, very funny, exhausting and earth-shattering.
What’s in store for you for the rest of the year?
Here’s how I see the rest of the year. I somehow liked Switzerland, making music and I would like to release 4, 5, 6 new songs by the end of the year and get on stage as soon as possible… although I don’t know exactly how I will deal with many people get along in a room… it’s something I would like to try very soon… maybe as a test of courage… or simply as a further development.
Tell MoggBlog viewers about your latest release! What’s the inspiration behind that?
What i had to realize is the fact that it wasn’t a decision to make music or not… it is and has just always been a part of me. sometimes it’s just a relief to record the melodies in order to be able to get them out of my head… so I have some rest again…. until the next song comes, which accompanies me until it’s recorded and made audible for other people became.
