Ash – Floating Away (Review)

NYC based Ash are a lively septet residing in the pop and R&B world. Songwriter Ash McMillan was born in Northern England, and now resides in New York City. The band were formed while all seven members were studying at the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College in New York. Now performing her original music with a fantastic outfit behind her, the stunning original music deals with the pains and joys of every day.

On ‘Floating Away‘, Ash stated, “I wrote “Floating Away” about recovering from sexual assault. While the song still fits with our usual upbeat, and funky sound, the lyrics are very honest about feeling of losing myself and the grief that came during recovery”.

A soulful performance that’s filled with independence and a reassuring outlook to the future. Mashing up the two genres creates this overall soul soundscape that’s to die for. I love the production of it mostly because it sounds like you’re right there with them, listening at a live gig. Until we meet Ash, hope to catch one of your shows in the future.
