Where to begin… YESLA is an emerging alternative rock artist with layers of star-quality. An artist that could certainly give Queens of the Stone Age and Jack White a run for their money, the powerful icon stopped to be chat about her career to date and advice she’d give to her younger self.
To anyone new to your music, name 3 words that best describe your sound.
The three words I would use to describe my musical sound would have to be: Fierce, Confident, Powerful

Hi I’m YESLA an Alternative Rock Artist from LA who is here to stir up some trouble and make some noise! A hidden talent of mine is, I am really good at relaxing my body at a moment’s notice & doing stunts that would usually injure most people. You gotta risk it to get the biscuit haha!
What made you decide that music is the right path for you?
Knowing that music was the right path for me seems to be something I was inherently born with. For as long as I can remember, music has been the light of my life. From just listening to records to singing, it just feels like a fitting puzzle piece for me. I think there was this moment of clarity when I was interviewing to be in the Music Production program at Berklee College of Music where based on my answers the interviewer told me it seemed as if I wanted to be in front of the scenes instead of the background & I knew at that moment they were absolutely correct. I packed up all my stuff, headed back to LA & that is where my artist journey began.
Do you prefer performing live or recording, and why?
When it comes to music, performing live has always been my 1st love and passion. Most of my musical experience comes from live performances with groups & bands. I seem to never get sick of the thrill of performing for a room full of people and that adrenaline I get before hitting the stage. It is something incomparable & that’s why I enjoy my craft so much. I will say as the years have gone by, I have found a new appreciation for recording in the studio. It really is a whole different monster. I don’t have the energy of a live audience to feed off of so it really is up to my producer & I to convey raw emotions that translate over the recording all on their own.
What’s the best advice you’d give to your younger self?
The best advice I would probably give to young YESLA is get out of your own way girl so you can get out there & get your life! For so long, I was waiting for a magical moment of being “discovered” and taken to stardom. I was waiting for someone to tell me I was good enough but what I didn’t realize is that I had the approval I was seeking inside of me all along. In this life, no one is going to hand you anything, you have to get out there & get what you want!
